Happy DIY...

These past two days during my off, I felt that my creative juices are flowing again and my fingers are itching to do something interesting. Well, originally, my plan is to create a mini study table for my niece partly because, I gave her a bed and some storage area but as a student, she need to have her own desk where she can write, study or just put some of her things. Though the weather is really bad, persistent that I was, I do manage to go on the DIY store to buy the materials that I need. Actually, I could have ask the carpenter to do this for her but I am so eager to do it mainly because, I know I can do it and it’s nice to have something in her space that I personally done.
And I had done it without any hassle. Well, this is just a simple project and actually it’s not very unique. But I am so proud of this because this is the first time that I have done it and its working. Very durable and can support the weight.
Isn’t it clever idea for a small space? A mini table that is set on the wall. And how about if you will not use it. Well I do manage to find a solution for this…
Bright idea, isn’t it? Well, as I said, that is not so unique because a lot had already done it in their space. And not just for a mini table, some already made this on their foldable living room!!!, Well, that idea should be left to the experts and not to an amateur one like me.

My niece was surprise upon seeing her new DIY table. Just like me, she can be creative at times and I know that this space will also be useful to her.
Well, I have also my table in my bedroom.  Actually, it’s a bigger study table purchased several years ago. As expected, I became tired of this table and was actually interested to dispose it. Luckily, my conscience is a little bit hesitant because I consider it as one of my first buy, when I had my 5 years in the company. So it has a little sentimental value for me. But as I am looking at it, I can’t find any inspiration when using the table. It’s just too dull, so lonely and uninspirational.
So I decided to do something in it. This is my study table before.
The chocolate brown color is a nice one but it’s just too dark. And I had been reading a lot of stuff that transforms boring furniture like this into something new. I still have a spare roll of wall paper from my niece’s mini table so I decided to do some alterations on my old and lonely study table. I remove the back wall of the table and decided to put the wall paper into it. And I was amazed with the transformation that it brings.
That wall paper brought out a lot of changes. It’s not anymore dark. It gives a little softness, a little girly charm (though ill be the one using it).  Just like backsplash on the kitchen tile, it made all the difference. It’s like something new, something warm and pleasing to the eye. The study table is not anymore boring, but a little creative and inspiring as well. My niece is also surprised seeing the makeover. It was worth the effort; actually, there was no effort at all. The project was so easy and it takes a minute to finish it.

But my problem is that, now that I have this little dainty design on my study table, I should have something to match, as not to sense that it was recently added to the space. Well I put the same wall paper on my closet? The problem is, it will be over girly this time. So I decided to just put some of it to my little niche on my very small walk in closet. I made it like that so that I can have a space where I can just sit while wearing off or on my shoes.
Isn’t it nice in there? Now, the study table is not the sole girly on my room. It has its companion. And I was amazed how it lightens up the space. It was worth it. I noticed that my closet is dirty now. So I grabbed my rug and started to clean it. And that made me so tired. But deep within, I was very happy. I felt so productive and talented and I hope no one will argue on that.

Till next time. Happy DIY’ing…

Make Me Home No.4

Welcome to Make me Home edition 4. Weve been doing the dining, living and kitchen already and i guess its proper to feature a bedroom as well. This time, i want to feature a bedroom which is so typical to a filipino setting where the bedroom is shared by siblings. It is a common fact that due to limited space and budget, room sharing is an option to a modest family. Though privacy may be a little bit of a problem when sharing a space, intimacy and healthy relationships can be strengthen by sharing a room with someone who are dear to us. This room may be bit of a challenge for me. When i saw the room, i thought, a bed with a pull out will definitely solve the small space problem. But, its kinda ackward for someone to sleep on the pull out right? In fact, sleeping in a pull out is just an option for a sleep overs. It will be greater and even righteous to give a bed to everyone so they can have a space of their own. So i envisioned a "chic retreat style" for this bedroo

The L shaped Sofa

An L shape sofa is a sofa that is literally designed in the shape of an L. It is designed like this for a number of reasons, and is a great choice for many different kinds of living rooms. Many people are buying L shaped sofas these days, in fact, for all of the benefits they offer. So, in case you have not been able to witness these benefits firsthand, here they are! First and foremost, an L shape sofa gives you more actual sitting room than does a regular sofa. Why? Well, because there is simply more of it to sit on! There is the main section (much like a normal couch), then, there is the elbow (a very relaxing spot to sit, I might add..), and the rest of the L on the end...which is usually the size of at least a small loveseat. And since there is so much room on these pieces to sit, you can fit a lot more people onto an L shaped sofa like this than you could on a regular sofa. The next benefit that an L shape sofa gives us is the benefit of being more affordable. Now, at this, you

La Residencia Almar...my home in Dumaguete

This is La Residencia Almar in Dumaguete City where i stayed for six nights. Actually, this is my second time to stay in this hotel because i was here last year. I opted to stay again in this hotel because i love the view in its front and it is smaller than the usual hotel located in Dumaguete. In front of the hotel is the famous Dumaguete Boulevard where a lot of people, local and tourist gather every morning and at night to see the majestic view of the sea. But what makes me desire to stay once again is tits beautiful interior, a Balinese theme which i always love in every home. The nice lighting fixture greeted me as I enter the hotel. This is spectacular especially at night. I love the simple but colorful detail at the base of the chandelier. The nuetral paint, with mostly beige, white and brown accentuated by several niches where an old jars are kept in display, trimmings and wooden pieces makes me think that I am in an old world retreat but never forgetting the asian herit
