My Privacy Unfolds

So this is my private sanctuary. I can say that my room is a filipino-japanese inspired bedroom.
My bed is a simple bed without a headboard. For so long, I am looking for something that can act as a headboard. Finally, i got to passed by a small antique store in San Juan Batangas and became curious on his items. I found the capiz window panel which is slightly bigger than my bed and was a perfect size for a headboard. I eventually purchased, cleaned and stalled it! And voila, a simple but great headboard. Now my bed becomes the focal point with the help of the capiz panel.
I am still in the limbo if i will replace my entertainment system with just a small side table/night table with table lamps. I really wanted to have that look but since im a room person (i can stay on my room the entire day just watching dvd's), its harder for me to just give up what i want to do in my room. In fact, the component was my first purchase from my first salary and the television set was my sisters first purchase so they already have some sentimental value on me.
I added green throw pillows to break the monochromatic color scheme. I noticed that brown is so abundant in the room and i really wanted to bring some color and adding green accents is a perfect choice. Two rattan stools were placed near the windows as an additional sitting. Same pillow case was used for continuity.
The built-in cabinet which was painted with same color as the walls is now painted white. Its a personal choice because i really wanted a white cabinet. It lightened up the whole room and ties the colors together. Picture frames of japanese women and warriors are added on the cabinet doors as a little detail thus making the cabinet more interesting and not boring.
Large frames are installed over the headboard for a more balance look. Just like the samll frames on the cabinet doors, the large frames are japanese inspired and truly reflects an asian feel. Several pieces which are flea market finds are also added like the bamboo wooden frames above the two large frames and the smiley suns on their sides. A small laundry box on the bedside acts as a side table for some of my books.
I know that in the days to come, Ill have some improvements on my room. But for now, im enjoying my private sanctuary and hopefully find some more inspiration to let everyone know who am I as a young and amateur designer.

  1. Hi - I love your room. It's beautiful and very personal. Maybe it's the photograph, but your walls look like that have a decorative finish on them - a Venetian Plaster or metallic finish. Does it? Great job!

The L shaped Sofa

An L shape sofa is a sofa that is literally designed in the shape of an L. It is designed like this for a number of reasons, and is a great choice for many different kinds of living rooms. Many people are buying L shaped sofas these days, in fact, for all of the benefits they offer. So, in case you have not been able to witness these benefits firsthand, here they are! First and foremost, an L shape sofa gives you more actual sitting room than does a regular sofa. Why? Well, because there is simply more of it to sit on! There is the main section (much like a normal couch), then, there is the elbow (a very relaxing spot to sit, I might add..), and the rest of the L on the end...which is usually the size of at least a small loveseat. And since there is so much room on these pieces to sit, you can fit a lot more people onto an L shaped sofa like this than you could on a regular sofa. The next benefit that an L shape sofa gives us is the benefit of being more affordable. Now, at this, you ...

Make Me Home No.4

Welcome to Make me Home edition 4. Weve been doing the dining, living and kitchen already and i guess its proper to feature a bedroom as well. This time, i want to feature a bedroom which is so typical to a filipino setting where the bedroom is shared by siblings. It is a common fact that due to limited space and budget, room sharing is an option to a modest family. Though privacy may be a little bit of a problem when sharing a space, intimacy and healthy relationships can be strengthen by sharing a room with someone who are dear to us. This room may be bit of a challenge for me. When i saw the room, i thought, a bed with a pull out will definitely solve the small space problem. But, its kinda ackward for someone to sleep on the pull out right? In fact, sleeping in a pull out is just an option for a sleep overs. It will be greater and even righteous to give a bed to everyone so they can have a space of their own. So i envisioned a "chic retreat style" for th...

Incorporating Buddha in Design

Buddha in an entirely blank wall makes a statement. Budhha in a console table gives elegance to the space Buddha as a wall art provides color inspiration for the space The buddha head on the fireplace takes centerstage and is the only accessory on the mantle. Buddha head completed the look on this awesome and relaxing living room. The buddha head gives the area an oriental inspired look. The buddha on the side table gives drama and mystique to the space. Dramatic lighting makes the space more interesting. This buddha unifies the asian look of the living room. Buddha heads need not only to be on asian inspired space. That buddha, steals the scene from the large mirror above the fireplace. The three buddha tablets on a niche is a statement. Buddhas, on its own is a decor element.
